Character Name: Ahiru
Canon: Princess Tutu
Canon Point: Post Series

Personality:
Ahiru is incredibly naïve. She is rather clueless and a little stupid. She often acts without fully considering the consequences of her actions. Ahiru is excitable, and tends to speak first and think about what she's saying later, especially when she's flustered. Her stumbling through life seems to physically manifest in her extreme clumsiness (though this can also be attributed to the fact that she is really a duck who was turned into a girl) and in her inability to get anywhere on time (she is always either very late or very early.) Despite all this it is very hard to dislike Ahiru because she never does anything with malicious intent.

Ahiru is an incredibly selfless and trusting person. She will go above and beyond to protect the people she loves and even people she has just met. Ahiru puts her heart into everything does and always means well. More than that she is incredibly, stubbornly loyal. If Ahiru thinks of you as a friend, if she sees some good in you, then nothing will change her mind. She will always support, and believe in her friends even if they can't seem to believe in themselves anymore.

Ahiru will do anything for her friends, even if it puts her own life at risk. She is selfless to the point of almost seeming to have no self preservation instinct. It isn't that she doesn't value her own life or that she wants to get hurt, its just that she doesn't think. She gets so focused on the well being of others that she forgets to take care of herself. Ahiru for all her optimism, is often plagued by insecurity. Though she can always believe in others sometimes she loses faith in her own abilities. For nearly the entire series Ahiru is plagued by insecurities over her own identity and about who she really is (due to her ability to switch between three distinctly different forms, not only in appearance but also in their abilities.) By the end of the series she accepts that her true self is a duck, and returns to this form. Originally her fear of returning to her duck form was in part due to her larger fear of being forgotten. Ahiru's greatest fear is that she will be forgotten, and left alone. For all her faults and insecurities Ahiru is a good person. Her naivety, and brashness are tempered by her selflessness, kindness, and her ability to see the good in everyone.

History:
Once upon a time, a man died

Abilities:
Ahiru can turn into a duck, or rather she is a duck that can turn into a human. This was all thanks to a magic pendent that by the point I'm taking her from she no longer has. When she did have it though it also allowed her to turn into a magical ballerina who helped heal people's hearts by dancing with them. It makes a lot more sense in the context of the show.

As far as normal skills go, well, Ahiru really doesn't have many. She's a good swimmer thanks to the fact that she's really a duck, and she was taking ballet classes (not that her level of skill probably qualifies this as an ability, but she's working on it.)She's shown to be very good with birds though whether that's because she is a bird, or because she always has a giant bowl of bird seed for them in the morning is anybody's guess.

Strengths:
Empathy, loyalty, and selflessness. She'll do just about anything for her friends, and is always willing to lend a helping hand to those who need it.

Weaknesses:
Naivety, clumsiness, some deep rooted insecurities over personal identity (something that waking up and being told she isn't who she thought she was is not going to help at all) and to top it off Ahiru isn't exactly the sharpest crayon in the box.

First Person Sample:

[The screen looks to be almost completely blocked by what is most likely someone's thumb. What can be seen of the room is shifting about, as if the communicator is being moved around. A girl's voice can be heard, and she sounds both frustrated and distressed.]

How am I suppose to use this thing? I'm suppose to be able to talk with this thing right? Ahh I don't understand! Was the story really not real? Or am I just in another story now? But Fakir broke Drosselmeyer's machine so he can't be controlling things anymore can he? So does that, does that mean it-it was just a dream?

[The girl's finger finally moves off the lens though the camera is still tilted the wrong way. The sideways girl isn't very tall and her red braid is almost her equal in length. She looks upset, and a little like she might cry.]

But it can't be! Rue-chan, and Mytho and everyone was real, I remember them! Fakir... I couldn't have made him up right? It can't all be fake can it...? Aren't I really just a...

[Ahiru drops the communicator onto her bed, the camera barely catching a shot of her wrapping herself around a pillow before it shows nothing but the ceiling. Her voice is soft, muffled by the pillow, but she sounds incredibly lost.]

What's the real me?

Third Person Sample:
Ahiru sat on her bed curled tightly in a ball, arms wrapped around her legs. She had arms again, not the wings she'd grown so used to these past weeks. She had legs and feet that could dance again, even if that dancing wasn't as graceful as what Princess Tutu could accomplish. She wasn't a duck anymore.

And according to the doctors she never had been. Ahiru buried her face further into her knees, trying to hold back the sting of tears that was threatening to overwhelm her. She had a family here, a family that knew her, and a life she couldn't remember. The story hadn't been real. They hadn't stopped the Monster Raven, and she'd never helped restore the Prince's heart... She'd never had classes with Mr.Cat or chatted with Pique and Lillie. She'd never dance with Fakir--

Fakir...

He... he wasn't real? She remembered it all so clearly though, everything they'd done, everything they'd accomplished, the promise he'd made her... Ahiru shook her head back and forth violently. No! It had to be real, it had to be! This was just another one of Drosselmeyer's tricks, another story! Another of his attempts to bring them all to a tragic end! It had to be!

Didn't it?

Ahiru bit back a sob. She'd thought she'd finally understood who she was. She was a duck, just a duck. It wasn't a perfect life, but that was her true self. That was who she was suppose to be without the story, or Drosselmeyer's influence. And it wasn't such a bad life really. Sure it had hurt to learn that Pique and Lillie had forgotten her, and she'd missed studying ballet, but Fakir had kept his promise. Even though the story ended he still remembered her. He kept her company while she swam on the lake, and brought her fresh bread. He spoke to her like she was still human; he still called her a moron and everything. Ahiru gave a weak laugh at the thought. She didn't realize how much that meant to her for him to still call a moron all the time like nothing had changed. But everything had changed hadn't it? The smile that had begun to bloom as she thought of Fakir died on her lips as she remembered the reality of her situation.

Those memories... they felt as real to her as the bed she was sitting on now, but it could all have a been just a dream. What had the doctors called it again? A delusin? Delison? Delusion! That was it! They were something she'd made up because she was sick, but that wasn't what it felt like. Even though they said this was her real life she couldn't remember it. Even if she'd forgotten for a little while she was a duck she'd remembered once Drosselmeyer had jogged her memory. Shouldn't being told she was somebody else, somebody with a different name and a family, have jogged those memories? But she couldn't deny that the people the doctors had told her about were real too.

She just didn't know what to believe anymore.
